Devotion: Power in the Name

READ: 1 Corinthians 1:26-30

What does this text reveal about YOU?

What does this text reveal about GOD?

The _____________________ of God is wiser than our wisdom. The _____________________ of God is stronger than our strength.  This statement is made to bring exclamation to a very important point. God loves to use the unqualified to do those things that would seem to require the most qualification.  In verse 29, we find God’s motive:  “so that no one can ___________________ before him. The Message says it this way, “That none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God.  Everything that we have—right thinking and right  living, a clean slate and a fresh start—comes from God by way of Jesus Christ.”

Some Christians wait their entire lives serve God because they don’t feel qualified. That’s sad because God didn’t ask you to step forward in self-assurance, He asked you to step forward in FAITH. The question has never been if you are able. The question is if you are willing.  Are you willing?

An old puritan prayer once conveyed these sentiments: “You show your power in my weakness, so that the more feeble I am, the more fit I am to be used, for you have encamped your grace around my weakness.  Help me to rejoice in my weaknesses and give you praise, to acknowledge my deficiencies before others and not be discouraged by them, that they may see your glory more clearly.”

God has placed a calling on your life (v.26), and he didn’t call you when you were at your best, he called you when you were at your worst. He is able to fulfill His work in you. Are you willing to surrender to His will? Are you willing to SERVE outside your comfort zone? You’ve served him on a remote island. Are you ready to serve Him at home?
