Devotion: Make Disciples

READ: Matthew 28:16-20

Make Disciples of all the Nations.

The time leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion was scary and confusing for the disciples.  The days before his resurrection were dark and hopeless.  Then he rose from the dead and everything changed.

Can you imagine the joy and encouragement the disciples experienced as they spent that special time with Jesus before He ascended into heaven?  But, before long, it was time for Him to leave.

Goodbye. It’s a hard word when directed at those you love. Today, Goodbye will be tough. You have made very special friends here on Cat Island, and the week passed all too fast. You’ve bonded with the group you’ve been serving with. This week has provided special memories that will last a lifetime.  But we must now say Goodbye.  Or…. we can do this the way Jesus and the disciples did.

FIRST, they spent their last minutes together WORSHIPPING instead of being sad (v.17).

SECOND, they realized that this moment, just like every moment, was under the perfect authority of Jesus (v.18).

THEN they focused on the future which is rich with God’s plan.  And His plan is the same for us today as it was for them then.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

You aren’t leaving the mission field today.  You are entering it. FINALLY, take Jesus’ special message with you (look left). Take time to pray and commit your home-life to Christ.
